Styling Your Wedding Like a Pro
Hopefully, you’re enlisting a team of experts and designers to artistically curate your wedding ideas and bring those dreams to life. Whether you’re working with a wedding or event designer or not, I wanted to share a few ideas I always stick to when planning a reception space or party. Design can be so creative and fun, but there are a few benchmarks I try to hit, no matter how wild my ideas may be! If you’re starting to think about your wedding design, take a look at these six tips for styling your wedding like a pro.
Consider the biggest items in the room.
If you have a wedding with 200 guests, you’ll need 200 chairs. That’s a lot of a large item taking up the space as you look around the room. Consider upgrading in places that make a big impact.
Make sure the tables are function-friendly and fun.
I recommend centerpieces be no taller than the length of your forearm. If guests can’t see across the table, they can’t talk. An alternative is very tall (and narrow) so the centerpiece is above their line of sight.
Design from floor to ceiling.
Every area in an event space can be a place for design – even the ceiling! Consider where you want the eye to be drawn and focus on those areas first but don’t overlook the rest.
Don’t skimp on lighting.
Lighting can make or break the rest of the event decor. Work with an expert to design a look that will not only set the mood but look good in photos and make your details pop.
Not everything has to be matched.
I love a good flea market find! If you have an eclectic taste, lean into it. Not all the paper goods have to match exactly and then linens don’t need to flow perfectly with the paper goods. Some variations that layer a look and compliment each other are key.
Make decisions based on taste, not trend.
The fastest way to regret your decisions, change your mind, or dislike your wedding photos is to make a decision simply because it’s a hot trend. That means it will be out of style before you know it (and possibly before your wedding day). It’s okay to incorporate trends but do so in an intentional and personal way so you’d don’t regret it later.
Follow these tips and you’re well on your way to a well-styled wedding day!
